Tataouine is a city located in southern Tunisia (Latitude: 32° 55' 60N - Longitude: 10° 26' 60E; altitude: 246 meters; time zone: UTC+1). It is one of Tunisia's 24 governates. Tataouine's name became famous when George Lucas, who filmed the original Star Wars film in various locations Tunisia (for example, the Cantina in Matmata ), named Luke Skywalker's fictional home planet Tatooine.
The area is famous for it's Ksour (abandoned Berber settlements) including the picturesque Ksar Ouled Sultane, Chenini and Douiret. These settlements feature beautiful ghorfa (granaries).
