Tamara Farnsworth is a fictional character of the computer game series Wing Commander, appearing in the fourth episode of the saga: Wing Commander IV - The Price of Freedom. Farnsworth is a fighter pilot flying for the Union of Border Worlds Navy under the callsign of Panther.

Personal Biography

Tamara Farnsworth was born around 2640 and, according to the BWS Intrepid crew database, she was born in deep space onboard a starship not on a real planet. She was described as a forthright, attractive, black haired woman who "could hold her own with anyone, male or female, an look good doing it". Gifted with natural flying skills, Tamara displayed her talent for piloting since her youth even before turning what had been a passion into a job when she teamed up with a privateer force.

During the Kilrathi War she served as a Confederation officer and was stationed for a significant amount of her career in the Astoria system where she met and befriended Colonel Jacob "Hawk" Manley. Panther also toured aboard the TCS Tarawa, before the carrier was sold to the Landreich, serving with Admiral Eugene Wilford . A few years later, when the tensions bewteen the Confederation and the Union of Border Worlds grew alarmingly and threatened to explode into a full war, Tamara Farnsworth was a Lt. Colonel serving as a squadron commander onboard the Border Worlds carrier Intrepid. When most of the bridge crew of the Intrepid was killed in a fight against a Confederation cruiser, Panther was forced to serve also as acting damage control officier, supervising repairs on the ship. Since Admiral Wilford knew her due to their shared service on the Tarawa, when the Admiral shifted his flag aboard the Intrepid, he placed Lt. Colonel Farnsworth in charge of a specialized planning staff with the task to prepare the Border Worlds raid in the Speradon system. Panther envisioned a complex scheme where the Intrepid forces would attack three different targets all at the same time: in spite of the meager resources the Border Worlders disposed, the operation was a complete success demonstrating Tamara Farnsworth's skills as a strategist. After Admiral Tolwyn's treachery was exposed and the crisis was over, Panther remained in service in the Border Worlds Navy.
