Tianqi Emperor

(Redirected from T'ien-Chi)

The Tianqi Emperor (1605-1627) was Emperor of China (Ming dynasty) from 1620 to 1627. Born Zhu Youjiao, he was the Taichang Emperor's eldest son.

Zhu Youxiao became emperor as an adolescent and did not give much attention to affairs of state, giving the actual power to the eunuch Wei Zhongxian and Madam Ke. Zhu Youxiao was illiterate and devoted his time to carpentry. Living conditions worsened during his reign and Tianqi faced several popular uprisings.
