Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 8, the Unfinished, which has only 2 movements, is considered to be the first truly Romantic symphony for its lyrical themes, striking harmony, and orchestration.
It has two movements:
- Allegro moderato in B minor
- Andante con moto in E major
This piece starts in the key of B minor, which is a rare key to use in the early Romantic, then Schubert modulated to the surprising G Major after four measures of transition.
Although this symphony was written in 1822, it was not performed until 1865 [1].
