Sungai Lembing is a tin mining town in Malaysia near the Lembing River . Was believed to be named because the local ruler saw a vision where he envisioned that there was a spear in the river and thus named it after it (lembing is the Malay term for spear).
In they hey days of the 70s was a major producer of underground tin using mine shafts to obtain the ore and later processed into jongkangs . Mines closed at present due to high cost of operations and a lowered yield. Currently a lesser populated town from its glory days. A museum highlighting the tin mining industry of yesteryears is found here.
