Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Sophie Ellis-Bextor (born 10 April 1979) is a British singer. She fronted the band theaudience until it split up, and then in 2000 collaborated with Italian DJ Spiller on the single "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)", which stormed to No 1 in the UK charts, winning a much-publicised race against ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham's first solo release. Sophie has since pursued her own successful solo career, with hits such as 'Take Me Home' (2001), 'Murder On The Dancefloor' (2001), 'Get Over You' (2002), and 'I Won't Change You' (2003). Her debut album, 2001's Read My Lips, became a substantial hit in the UK and Europe, displaying Ellis-Bextor's classy, elegant style. The 2003 follow-up, Shoot From The Hip, was less commercially successful but won far more favour with critics for its sophisticated electro-pop sound. She is the daughter of Janet Ellis, a former presenter of children's programme Blue Peter, which led to Sophie appearing on the programme as a child. She has a son Sonny, born in 2004.
