Restricted Service Licence

A UK Restricted Service Licence (often called an RSL), is granted by British broadcasting authorities to radio stations serving a local community or a special event. They are usually issued for a very short duration and for very low power of 1 watt. They can be compared with the Low-power broadcasting movement in the United States.

RSL broadcasts

A number of licensed 28-day RSL (Restricted Service Licence) broadcasts have been granted to various entities including Radio Caroline. The former offshore station now operates from land based studios in Maidstone, Kent, England. Its ship MV Ross Revenge is often engaged in these RSL events and is usually moored close to a dock.
