Quorthon

Quorthon (1966June 7, 2004) was the pseudonym of the founder and song writer of the pioneering Swedish black metal band Bathory; he also recorded two solo albums at the beginning of the 1990s.

Quorthon was found dead in his apartment in 2004, cause of death apparently from heart failure. He was 38 years old and was known to suffer from heart problems.

For years there has been speculation and confusion over his real name, which has continued after his death. One of the most prevailing rumours that Quorthon repeatedly dispelled concerning his real name suggested his name was Thomas Forsberg and that he was the son of Black Mark Records owner Börje Forsberg. However, with his death came press releases from both Black Mark Records and the Forsberg family that seemed to suggest Quorthon was in fact Forsberg's son, although other sources state that Forsberg was only twelve years older than Quorthon, suggesting that they may have been siblings if related at all. The label's Web site now refers to him as Ace/Quorthon, and some sources report that his legal first name was in fact Ace. It is fairly certain that the name Pugh Rogefeldt, reported in Lords of Chaos, Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind 's study of the black metal scene, is erroneous.
