Province of Milan

Milan (It. Provincia di Milano) is a province in the Lombardy region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Milan.

It has an area of 1,984 sq km, and a total population of 3,707,210 (2001). There are 189 communes in the province (source: Italian institute of statistics Istat, see this link).

The new province of Monza e Brianza is being created from part of the province of Milan. This new province (capital Monza) contains 363 sq km, 50 communes, and has approx. 740,000 inhabitants.
