Pretty in Pink is a 1986 film about teenage love and the struggle of growing up in poverty.
Molly Ringwald stars as "Andie," a young girl with an obsession for all things pink, an unemployed father and a crush on one of the richest boys in her school. The film was directed by Howard Deutch , produced by Lauren Shuler , and written by John Hughes.
Iona was the eccentric older friend, mentor, and something of a fairy godmother to Andie. She owned a record shop, was unmarried and wore vintage clothes.
In the actual film, Andie ends up with rich, preppy Blane. However, when test-screened before its official release, Andie was supposed to have hooked up with stylin' best friend Duckie. The novelization retains the Andie-Duckie ending.
