Phillip Crane (born November 3, 1930, Chicago, is an American politician.
A noted conservative intellectual with a PhD in history, Crane was first elected to the US House from Illinois in a special election on November 25, 1969, to fill a vacancy left by Donald Rumsfeld. Unsuccessful candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 1980. After being assailed for being out-of-touch with his constituents (for example, his Washington DC office lacked a public email address), Crane was defeated for reelection by Democrat Melissa Bean on November 2, 2004.
