Peter Jones (June 12 1920 - April 10 2000) was an English actor.

He was most noted for his lead role in the TV sitcom The Rag Trade and his contributions as the voice of "The Book" on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and his elegant repartee on the BBC Radio 4 programme, Just a Minute.

He was also a talented scriptwriter.

He was born at Wem in Shropshire.
