Old Salem

Old Salem is a living history museum located in the historical town of Wachovia, North Carolina (now Winston-Salem). It was originally a Moravian settlement. The Moravians established the town in order to have a place to freely practice their religion. Today, the town is preserved much as it was in the 18th century. Living-history reenactors portray life in this community as it was in the 1600s and 1700s. The features include a working blacksmith, cobbler, gunsmith, bakery and carpenter.

Salem College, Salem Academy, the Salem Tavern , Mayberry's , and a host of old-fashioned shops are located in Old Salem. Governor's School students stay in Salem's dormitories each summer.

The community is popularly represented by a silver teapot, a Moravian symbol now identified with Winston-Salem as a whole.
