Nikolay Timofeyevich Tanayev (born November 5, 1945) was the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan from 2002 to 2005, serving under President Askar Akayev. He is an ethnic Russian. He was Deputy Prime Minister under Kurmanbek Bakiyev and was made acting PM on May 22 2002 after Bakiyev was sacked. He officially became PM eight days later when he was confirmed by parliament.

Tanayev was born in Mihailovka village in Penzenskaya oblast. As Prime Minister, he survived a no confidence vote on April 8, 2004: the legislature voted 27 to 14 to remove him from office, but was short of the necessary 30 votes.

On March 24, 2005, Tanayev resigned as Prime Minister in the midst of a violent takeover of the capital, Bishkek, by anti-government protesters. Almost a month later he was named as the special envoy for foreign economic relations in his native Penza region in Russia.
