The National Crime Squad is the British Police organization which deals mainly with organized crime and major crimes. Based on the earlier Regional Crime Squads, the NCS reports directly to the Home Office and has nationwide jurisdiction. It normally does not handle security matters referring such matters to the appropriate agency. It primarily deals with organized crime, major drug trafficking, murder for hire schemes, illegal arms dealing, human trafficking, computer and high tech crimes, money counterfeiting and laundering, extortion, kidnapping and murder relating to any of the above. Lastly it serves to augment and support regional forces throughout the UK. Its personnel can be directly recruited or seconded from other British Police forces. It is headed by a Director-general and has its own service authority. It is headquartered in London with three Regional Operational Command Units; Northern, Eastern, Western, other units are the Financial OCU, the Paedophilia Unit, the National Hi-tech Crimes Unit and the Immigration Crimes Team. The NCS consists of 1,656 full time personnel including 5 Directors, 1,169 seconded Police Officers and 280 police Staff.
