Museum of Modern Art
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is an art museum in New York City. Its permanent buildings are in Midtown Manhattan, but the collection is currently on display in Astoria while the museum undergoes extensive renovation. The museum is often considered a rival to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Considered by many to have one of the best collections of modern masterpieces in the world, it houses such important works as Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, Broadway Boogie Woogie by Piet Mondriaan, and works by leading American artists such as Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, and Edward Hopper. MoMA also has an important design collection.
MoMA first opened to the public on November 7, 1929.
