Marduk-apal-iddina II

Marduk-apal-iddina II (the biblical Merodach-baladan, also called Marduk-baladan, Baladan and Berodach-baladan) (722702 BCE), Chaldean prince, who usurped the Babylonian throne in 721. Sargon of Assyria repressed the allies of Marduk-apal-iddina II in Syria and Palestine and eventually drove (ca. 710) him from Babylon. After the death of Sargon, Marduk-apal-iddina II recaptured (703702) the throne. In the time of his reign over Babylonia, he strengthened the Chaldean Empire.
