Magellan (Telescopes)

The Magellan Telescopes are 6.5m optical telescopes located at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. The two telescopes are named after the astronomers Walter Baade and Landon Clay .

First light for the telescopes was on September 15th, 2000 for the Walter Baade, and September 7th, 2002 for the Landon Clay.

The Observatories of the Carnegie Institution of Washington built and operate the twin telescopes, as well as two smaller instruments at the same observatory site.
