Madonna (art)
Madonna is a medieval Italian term for a noble or otherwise important woman. In modern usage, only the nobility usage survived; the word has also been adopted by the English language. The term "madonna" is widely used in art, especially by Renaissance painters. One of the most widely known example of a Madonna is Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa.
