Light machine gun
A light machine gun (LMG) is a fully automatic firearm that is designed to be portable. Trained individuals utilizing light machine guns are generally able to fire it from the hip, though they are usually more effective if used when prone. They are almost always designed to be used with clips, not belts. They are typically not very accurate, producing a "cone of fire" in the general direction of fire.
Light machine guns fell out of use post World War II, replaced by assault rifles and general-purpose machine guns.
An example of a light machine guns is the British Bren.
