Large eddy simulation

Large eddy simulation is a type of numerical algorithm used to solve the differential equations governing fluid flow. In large eddy simulation, large eddies are resolved while smaller eddies are modelled. The convolution filter width determines which eddies are to be modelled and which are to be resolved. Other types of numerical algorithms for computational fluid dynamics are direct numerical simulation and Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes simulations.
