The official language of Mali is French, but Bambara is the most used language (by about 80% of the population). Other languages and language groups include Fulfulde (or Peul), Senufo, Soninké , Tamasheq, Songhay, Dogon .
French is a part of the standard school curriculum, and is widely understood.
