Kita is a town in western Mali. It lies east of Mount Kita Kourou , known for its caves and rock paintings. The city, today known for its music and an annual Roman Catholic festival, was once the capital of the Mali Empire.
Kita lies on the Bamako to Dakar railway line. Notable people from the town include the musician Kandia Kouyaté.
The town grew in the 1990s around the cotton industry, but this has since declined.
