This article is about the Islamic theological term. For the Indian president see Abdul Kalam.

Kalam (Arabic: علم الكلام) in Arabic means speech or discourse and refers to the Islamic tradition of seeking theological principles through dialectic. It also refers to the trend in Islamic thought of scholasticism, somewhat akin to the rabbinical tradition of ascertaining the law. Followers of Kalam are referred to as Mutakallimun.
