K. V. Simon

Mahakavi K. V. Simon (1883 - 1944) was a Christian poet writing in Malayalam. He was also a musician, a teacher, a poet, a reformer, writer, profound Bible scholar and debater.

He was born in Kerala, India. He possessed unsually high intelligence. At the age of 13, he became a school teacher. He was baptised at the age of 20. Many were converted to Christianity, through his Bible class.

Simon composed around 300 songs, which are still used in the Kerala Brethren Assemblies and other christian groups. The title Mahakavi (Dean of Poets) was conferred on him by Sahitya Parishad (Academy of Literature).

He authored many books. He had a profound knowldege in Sanskrit. He also knew English, and had a working knowledge of Greek and Hebrew. He had a good library.
