John Kricfalusi

John Kricfalusi (born September 9, 1955, in Chicoutimi, Québec, Canada) is an animator; the creator of The Ren and Stimpy Show and The Ripping Friends cartoon series and the founder of animation studio Spümcø International. Kricfalusi is also known as John K. but when working on cartoons he doesn't like or is in protest about, he is sometimes credited as Raymond Spum.

For many years Kricfalusi drew low-end studio TV cartoons before being 'rescued' in 1987 by director Ralph Bakshi. Kricfalusi created a new series of the original Terrytoons cartoon Mighty Mouse for Bakshi's animation studio which was aired on Cartoon Network. His take on it was more creative than the original and considerably more bizarre. Complaints about the series prompted quick cancellation by CBS.

Kricfalusi went on to found his Spümcø International animation studio with partner Jim Smith, creating the now infamous The Ren and Stimpy Show which they sold to Nickelodeon in 1988. After continuous battles with Nickelodeon executives over content, Kricfalusi was fired from the show in 1992.

Since Ren & Stimpy, Kricfalusi has worked on various projects including some web based cartoons, a Björk music video, some Yogi Bear cartoons and a Fox Kid's TV series called The Ripping Friends. Most recently he has written, directed and starred in new Ren & Stimpy adult cartoons produced for Spike TV which allowed him much more freedom.

Kricfalusi is pronounced Kris-fa-loo-see.
