This young pianist began his studies at the age of four. He has performed in community concerts in Reno, as well as in the Artown Steinway Series. Chen has presented solo recitals at Nightingale Concert Hall, featuring repertoire such as the Chopin Piano Concerto in e minor, Ravel Gaspard de la Nuit, Liszt Feux Follets, and Beethoven Sonata Op. 111. He studies with James Winn, an associate professor of the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Reno, Nevada. Jiyang plans to become a concert pianist and conductor after attending a music conservatory. Chen has won first prize in Nevada at the Baldwin Competition, and was state runner up in the Yamaha Piano Competition. He made his orchestral debut with the Ruby Mountain Symphony Orchestra at age 17.
