Jerry Weller

Gerald C. "Jerry" Weller (born July 7 1957) is an American politician who has been a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 1995, representing the 11th District of Illinois (map). He was born in Streator, Illinois, was educated at the University of Illinois, and was a staff member for Representative Tom Corcoran, assistant to the director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, an aide to Secretary of Agriculture John R. Block and a member of the Illinois House of Representatives before entering the House.

On November 20, 2004, Weller married Guatemalan congressional deputy Zury Ríos Sosa, the daughter of the country's former dictator Efraín Ríos Montt. Weller's opponent in the 2004 election, Tari Renner, stated the relationship created a conflict of interest due to Weller's seat on the House International Relations Committee; Weller denied any conflict and claimed he would not vote on Guatemalan issues. In the end, Weller won reelection comfortably.
