Jack Kingston

John Heddens "Jack" Kingston (born April 24 1955), American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1993, representing the 1st District of Georgia (map). He was born in Byron, Texas , was educated at the University of Georgia, and was a business executive and a member of the Georgia House of Representatives before entering the House. He lives in Savannah, the largest city in the district.

The 1st District had been under strong Republican influence for several years, but the 1990s round of redistricting cut out most of Savannah and placed it in Cynthia McKinney's 11th District. Kingston ran for the redrawn 1st and won handily, becoming the first Republican to represent the district since Reconstruction. He has never faced a serious or well-funded challenge, and ran unopposed in 1998 and 2004.

Since 2003, he has been vice-chairman of the House Republican Conference, ranking him sixth among House Republicans.

In May 2004 Kingston met with Tony Curtis and Bo Derek to discuss protecting horses. The relevant bill is H.R. 857, The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.
