IMP

An imp is a fantasy creature.
In computer science, IMP refers to at least 3 different things:
- IMP (Interface Message Processor) was an ARPA-specified method for connecting computers to each other via telephone lines. ARPA history dates it to at least October,1967 (See [RFC 1]).
- IMP was an extensible-syntax systems programming language for the CDC 6600.
- Edinburgh IMP was another systems programming language, this one developed at Edinburgh University and used to write the EMAS operating system.
In Cell biology, IMP can refer to an Integral membrane protein.
IMP is the callsign for Imparja, a rural Australian satellite television broadcaster.
IMP is a popular open source webmail client written in PHP, available from the Horde Project.
