Hollinger Inc.

(Redirected from Hollinger, Inc.)

Hollinger Inc. is based in Toronto, Ontario Canada. It is the parent company of Chicago-based Hollinger International, whose primary holdings include a group of Chicago newspapers. Notable among them is the Chicago Sun-Times.

Hollinger Inc. is controlled by Canadian-based Ravelston Corp , which was set up as a personal holding company for Canadian-born businessman Conrad Black who gave up his Canadian citizenship to become Lord Black of Crossharbour in Britain's House of Lords. On April 20, 2005, Conrad Black and business partner David Radler resigned from Ravelston to facilitate a filing for bankrupcy protection. Ravelston is now in the hands of court-appointed receiver RSM Richter.

The company began as Hollinger Mines, owner of one of the world's largest gold mines near Timmins, Ontario. It was acquired by E.P. Taylor's conglomerate, Argus Corp.
