Historical Significance

Abraham Lincoln was born in a small cabin on Sinking Spring Farm near Hodgenville in February 1809. A little over two years later the family moved to another farm ten miles away. Despite claims made later by entrepreneurs hoping to cash in on tourism, the cabin Lincoln was born in was destroyed by the time he was assassinated. The National Park Service labels a replica cabin built near Hodgenville as "Traditional Licoln Birthplace Cabin," but it was actually built thirty years after his death.
