Hamburger Hill is a 1987 American movie starring Dylan McDermott and Michael Boatman , directed by John Irvin and written by James Carabatsos . It is set in 1969 during the Vietnam War and based on the actions of an United States Army company's efforts to take a fortified hill in the A Shau Valley in Vietnam. The film was distributed by Paramount Pictures.
