Green Left Weekly is a left-wing Australian newspaper. Initiated by the Democratic Socialist Party in 1991, currently it is formally independent of any political party, although its editorial line supports the Australian Socialist Alliance. Since 2002 its website has frequently been rated as Australia's top ranking political site and as the most popular political website for young Australians after that of US-filmmaker Michael Moore. It is Australia's only nation-wide anti-capitalist newspaper.
The paper has the support of well-known left-wing journalist John Pilger — “There are few other newspapers — radical or any other kind — that draw together news and analysis that is as well informed, credible, and non-sectarian as Green Left Weekly. Its work has influenced mine and has been a beacon to those who believe the press ought to be an agent of the people.”[1]
