A machine gun manufactured by Fabrique Nationale (FN) of Herstal, Belgium. Chambered for the 7.62 x 51 mm NATO cartridge, it is extremely reliable under all conditions.

Officially designated by the British Army as the L7A2 GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun), but affectionately nicknamed "Gimpy" by British soldiers.

The U.S. designation for the FN MAG is M240.
