Everardo Elizondo

Everardo Elizondo Almaguer is a noted Mexican economist. Since 1998 (and as of 2004) he has been deputy governor of the Bank of Mexico , that country's central bank.

He was born in Linares, Nuevo León, and earned a bachelor's degree with honors in economics from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. He earned his master's and doctorate in economics at the University of Wisconsin in the United States. After doing post-doctoral work at Harvard University and working as a visiting scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, he was invited to consult in the government of the Mexican state of Nuevo León during the administration of governor Sócrates Rizzo . He then worked as director of economic research at the now-defunct Grupo Financiero Bancomer and as an advisor to the Association of Mexican Bankers . As of 2004 his is deputy governor of the Bank of Mexico, where he replaced Francisco Gil Díaz ; he is also chief of the directing council of the Universidad Mexicana del Noreste .
