Essen, Belgium

Essen is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises the towns of Essen, Heikant, Horendonk, Wildert, Statie en Hoek. On January 1st, 2004 Essen had a total population of 16,791 (8,405 males and 8,386 females). The total area is 47.48 km² which gives a population density of 353.63 inhabitants per km².

The town is near the border with the Netherlands. It has a train station; going north it is the last one in Belgium. The next station is Roosendaal, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands.
