Epworth is a city located in Dubuque County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,428.

Epworth is home to the Divine Word College, which is a Roman Catholic seminary.

Epworth is located at 42°26'45" North, 90°55'52" West (42.445773, -90.931231).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²). 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Epworth is located near U.S. Highway 20, and is about 20 miles west of Dubuque, Iowa.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,428 people, 476 households, and 364 families residing in the city. The population density is 420.9/km² (1,089.8/mi²). There are 500 housing units at an average density of 147.4/km² (381.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.21% White, 0.49% African American, 0.07% Native American, 5.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.49% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 476 households out of which 45.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.1% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% are non-families. 19.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.79 and the average family size is 3.24.

In the city the population is spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 113.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 121.3 males.
