Enfield, Nova Scotia

Enfield, pop. 8287 (2001 census), is a community straddling the borders of Hants and Halifax Counties, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was named in the late 19th century by Thomas Donaldson, who came not from England, but from Enfield, Connecticut. It is now primarily a bedroom community for those working in the city of Halifax, or at the nearby Halifax International Airport. Situated at the halfway point between Halifax and Truro, it was once home to a prominent railway station (now dismantled), and, in the 19th century, a system of locks on the Shubenacadie River.
