Emperor Go-Fukakusa of Japan
Emperor Go-Fukakusa (後深草天皇) (1243-1304) was the 89th imperial ruler of Japan. His reign lasted from 1246 to 1260. Go-Fukakusa abdicated in favor of his younger brother, Kameyama. However, twenty-eight years later, after two more abdications, Go-Fukakusa's son, Fushimi, took the throne. During the early Muromachi period, when two rival houses struggled for control of the throne, Fushimi's descendents formed the northern dynasty, while Kameyama's descendents formed the rival southern dynasty.
