Easter Head is the most northly point of Dunnet Head, and thus the most northly point of both mainland Scotland and the island of Great Britain. (The point is at or .)
At the top of the 300 foot (90 metre) cliffs of Easter Head there stands the 345 foot (105 metre) tall Dunnet Head Lighthouse) which was built in 1831 by Robert Stevenson, grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson.
Near the lighthouse there are minor fortifications built in World War II to protect the naval base at Scapa Flow and a bunker used by the Royal Observer Corps during the Cold War.
