The Earth Flag is a photo transfer of a NASA image of the Earth on a dark blue background. It has been associated with Earth Day, environmental awareness, and the celebration of the global community since its creation in 1969 by John McConnell and has been used since the first Earth Day in 1970.
Earth flags use this famous photo, "The Blue Marble":
History
The first Earth flag used screen-printing and the colors of the Earth were reversed: the ocean was white and the clouds were blue. With only two colors, one color was for clouds and the other color was for both ocean and land. This image of a later Earth flag shows the correct colors.
The image is from the Apollo 10 Earth Foto 69-HC-487 from NASA (May 18, 1969).
