Earl Russell

The title Earl Russell, of Kingston Russell in the County of Dorset, was created in the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1861 for Lord John Russell, the foreign secretary and former Prime Minister.

The Earl holds the subsidiary title Viscount Amberley, of Amberley in the County of Gloucester and of Ardsalla in the County of Meath. Other than the 1st Earl, famous earls have included the philosopher Bertrand Russell, the 3rd Earl (though he is rarely referred to by the title), and the late 5th earl, Conrad Russell, a noted historian of 17th century England.
