Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust

The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust was established by naturalist, author and television presenter Gerald Durrell on July 6 1963, as the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust, to establish breeding colonies of endangered species at Jersey Zoological Park.

It was renamed, on the Zoo's 40th anniversary, March 26 1999, in his honour after Durrell's death.

In 1978 an International Training Centre was created, adjacent to the Zoo, to train conservationists working in zoos around the world and in the wild.

In 1971 the Trust purchased Les Augrès Manor, the home it shares with the Zoo.
