Donatello was one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His mask was purple (his favorite color), and his weapon was a bo. Donatello was something of a nerd, and often invented the gadgets used by the other team members. His name was inspired by Donatello, the famous Renaissance artist.

He's the most non-violent of the brothers, preferring to use his mind and intellect to find a solution to a problem and resorts to violence only as a last resort. One could almost infer this from his weapon of choice. A trained bo-man can maim and kill with expert timing an placement, but it also the least lethal of the other weapons.

He is also the more introspective of the four.

It would seem from the cartoon series and the films that he is closer to Michelangelo than he is to his other brothers, but that isn't meant to put his relationships with Leonardo and Raphael on a lower level. Pairing off usually lends to a Donatello/Michelangelo team and a Leonardo/Raphael team. The personalities complimenting eachother well in this theme.

In 1987 cartoon show, Donatello was voiced acted by Barry Gordon, who also voiced acted Bebop. In 2003 cartoon show, he was voiced acted by Sam Regal.
