Delonix baccal (Chiov.) Baker f.
Delonix elata (L.) Gamble
Delonix regia (Hook.) Raf.

The genus Delonix forms part of the subfamily Caesalpinioideae of the pea family Fabaceae. The three members of the genus are flowering trees, native to Madagascar and east Africa. By far the best known in the Royal Poinciana, Delonix regia.

The common name, Poinciana, comes from a former genus name Poinciana, in which the members of the current genus Delonix were classified along with plants now placed in genus Caesalpinia .
