D'arcy

D'arcy (born D'arcy Wretzky on May 1, 1968) is a bassist and was an original member of the alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins.

She was born in South Haven, Michigan.

The band was founded in 1988 by Billy Corgan and James Iha. Corgan and Wretzky met at a local rock club when Corgan took exception to comments he heard her making about the band they saw that night. An argument and discussion followed, and Corgan, learning that Wretzky played bass guitar and impressed with her attitude, recruited her for the band's first shows and demos.

She was featured on the Smashing Pumpkins studio albums Gish, Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and Adore. D'arcy left the band in 1999 prior to the release of their final album and farewell tour to pursue an acting career. Even though she left the prior to its release, she played bass on most tracks on their final studio album MACHINA/The Machines of God.
