Coreference

In linguistics, coreference is the phenomenon where two expressions in an utterance both refer to the same thing.

For example, "You said you would help me"; here "you" and "you" are coreferent, since they both refer to the same thing. Another example: "I saw Scott yesterday. He was fishing by the lake." Here, "Scott" and "he" are coreferent.
