The Central Statistics Office is the statistical agency responsible for the Republic of Ireland census and other related data collection activities to assist in government planning. The office is answerable to the Taoiseach and has its main offices are located in Cork, the office was officially established by the Statistics Act, 1993 in an attempt to reduce the number of offices under which statistics were collected for the state.
