Category:Oriental Orthodoxy

Oriental Orthodoxy consists of several Eastern Christian churches that diverged from the western church in the fifth century, rejecting the dogmatic definitions of the Council of Chalcedon. This happend long before the East-West Schism of the eleventh century in which the western church split into the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox church. Thus, despite potentially confusing nomenclature, Oriental Orthodox churches are distinct from the churches that collectively refer to themselves as Eastern Orthodox.
